With the support of the European Commission, the French National Committee of the Chambers of Craft Trades (APCM) takes the lead to gather her European and Mediterranean partners around a common matter: Management and Quality in small businesses and craft trades.

This pilot project was set up within the framework of EUMEDIS, a major initiative of the European Commission for the information society. It encloses all the up-to-date components of the economic development: businesses management by quality, new technologies, international relations, mutualisation, sharing of experiences and competencies, efficiency and pragmatism of means and tools to be implemented.

The project associates higher education and professional training institutes as well as public and private structures of small businesses and craft trades in the following countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Malta, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey.

The main objective of the partners is to establish an Euro-Mediterranean "Movement" for Management and Quality. To do so, the project partners intend

• to create a common, comprehensive and durable approach for management and quality aimed at small businesses
• to use the information society tools whenever it's possible in the process of disseminating the common approach

Qualitheme is the first release of the common quality approach. It was approved by all the partners. Quality co-ordinators and SME's consultant from each partners employees were trained.

The current phase is the training of a panel of 10 companies by country, constituting a true test of the validity and the reliability of the suggested approach.
